Five great Valentine's Day movies

Valentine's Day is around the corner and there are so many great romantic flicks out there you can watch snuggling up with your beloved in the comfort of your home. In addition to the roses, candy and dinner, you will need some warm fuzzy movies to watch as you snuggle up with your honey that night or any other good night of the year.

Memorable love stories provide comedy, romance and in many cases - a good cry at the expense of someone else's relationship. As a fan of classic movies, most of my picks are low in use of extreme graphics - in favor of strong characterization to move the story. Ladies, to settle a potential grumble, let your man know that there are many war stories and spins of the Old West that captivate the heartstrings as the hero leaves or regains the love of his life. However, backdrop and setting alone can't simply define the endurance of passion in a man for his woman. William Hurt showed me that years ago in Body Heat, but I digress...

Here's a list of five other great movies to consider for your Valentine's Date night:

5. Legends of the Fall - Brad Pitt, Aiden Quinn, the Civil War, the West, family loyalty and unrequited love. Pitt, Quinn and Henry Thomas are brothers; off the train comes the beautiful Julia Ormond. Grab at least two boxes of tissues.

4. When Harry Met Sally... - This is one of my all-time favorites... I watch it every New Year's and any other time I think of it. Created on the premise that women and men cannot be "just friends", this flick clearly demonstrated that these two were just destined for love, period. Features some of cinema's most thought-provoking dialogue as well!

3. An American in Paris - As Gene Kelly grieved the loss of his love (beautiful Leslie Caron in her debut film) to another and took us on his wistful, imaginary journey with her for one last dance to Gershwin's An American in Paris, the most glorious 11 minutes of film was captured. After coming out of the trance with him on the balcony, your breath will also be taken away at the most splendid sight he could behold in Paris. Tissues are required.

2. Casablanca - Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. This is the story that has it all for everyone. War, intrigue, suspense, gambling, song, romance and, of course, Paris. Summing it up seemingly descecrates the integrity of the movie - so you simply have to see it.

1. Roman Holiday - Audrey Hepburn's debut film with Gregory Peck. What a story. The burned-out princess in dire need of fun and privacy meets the American journalist in need of a good story break. What happens? Love and a phenomenal display of trust unmatched in any other film of the era. Simply beautiful.
